Sequans powers Geotab’s new GO8 LTE telematics device

LTE for IoT chipmaker Sequans Communications S.A. has announced that its Calliope LTE Cat 1 Platform is powering Geotab’s new GO8 device, an open-platform telematics solution for fleet management unveiled at the Mobile World Congress.

The GO8 delivers a comprehensive set of telematics features including GPS, g-force monitoring, accurate engine diagnostics, accident detection and notification, near real-time vehicle data, fast GPS acquisition time, auto-calibrating accelerometre performance, and end-to-end security.

“The new LTE-enabled GO8 is an amazingly useful telematics device with a wide array of valuable features, now made even more valuable with the addition of LTE connectivity,” said Georges Karam, Sequans CEO.

“LTE technology is the ideal connectivity solution for the GO8 which transmits detailed information such as engine diagnostics, vehicle alerts, and accident data. Geotab’s GO8 device is a powerful tool for fleet managers who need second-by-second data accuracy and location information, and we are very proud to see our Calliope LTE Cat 1 technology inside.”

“Our work with Sequans has enabled us to introduce the next generation of our telematics solution with the launch of the Geotab GO8,” said Neil Cawse (@ncawse), CEO, Geotab. “Having Sequans LTE Cat 1 technology in the GO8 gives our customers advanced connectivity and a cost-effective fleet management solution that will be used well into the next decade.”

The Geotab GO8 device is LTE-enabled by Sequans’ Calliope LTE Platform, an-IoT-optimised chipset solution designed specifically for LTE Cat 1 applications needing up to 10 Mbps of throughput, an ideal speed for Geotab’s fleet tracking and telematics application.

Calliope comprises baseband and RF, an integrated IoT applications processor running Sequans’ carrier-proven LTE protocol stack, an IMS client, and a comprehensive software package for over-the-air device management and packet routing.

The Geotab GO8 is now certified for use on LTE and will be on display in Sequans’ booth at Mobile World Congress Americas, September 12-14, North Hall, N.501.
